I was born on June 13, 1935 and was raised in Hanford, California, where
I attended grammar, junior high, and high school. I went on to attend
the College of the Sequoias and later entered the U.S. Army. I married my wife, Dolores on May 26, 1956.
Upon my separation from the U.S. Army, I held various jobs until 1964,
when I was appointed to the California Highway Patrol. Upon graduating
from the C.H.P. Academy, I reported to my first duty assignment in the
Baldwin Park area, where I was assigned for ten months. I then transferred
back to the Hanford area in 1965. At that time, I was unofficially told
that I was the first Latino officer assigned to the Hanford area where I stayed
for the remainder of my 26 year career in the C.H.P.
In 1994, I ran for the Kings County Board of Supervisors District 4 office
and was elected, becoming the first Latino Supervisor to be elected
to the Board of Supervisors. I was elected to my second term
in 1998, a third term in 2002, a fourth term in 2006, and thank you to the voters of Kings County for allowing me to serve my fifth term in office.
I have an open door policy and attempt to help all residents of Kings County. I am bilingual and have been a strong advocate for community neighborhoods and have a long history of being involved in numerous community activities and service organizations benefiting seniors, disabled and youth. I am a full-time Supervisor and very proud of my work record which includes serving on the following committees: Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO), Kings County Association of Governments (KCAG), Kings County Commission on Aging, Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging Counci (K/TAAA), Kings County Public Transit Agency Board (KCAPTA), Kings County Housing Authority Board and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District Board of Directors
