Food Safety Allstar Awards Program

This awards program was started in 1996 to give recognition to the top food establishments in Kings County. The program was developed by the Division to give positive recognition to those food establishments within Kings County that have consistently exceeded requirements in terms of protecting the public from foodborne illness risks. Only facilities with full food preparation and service operations are eligible for an award. Eligible types of establishments include restaurants, bakeries, school cafeterias which prepare their own food, and full scale deli operations at retail markets. Specific criteria for receiving an award are purposely stringent and must all be met in order for an award to be given to a specific facility. Criteria for consideration for an award include the following:

    1. The facility must receive a Pass rating on all food safety evaluations for the past calendar year.

    2. The managers and key food handling personnel must understand and implement advanced food safety concepts such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis - Critical Control Points) in their daily operation.

    3. The facility has instituted an ongoing internal self-evaluation program.

    4. An electronic thermometer is used to monitor internal cooking temperatures in instances that require precise temperature location readings.

    5. No confirmed foodborne illness outbreaks associated with the establishment during the past year.
