Reporting Foodborne Illnesses and Product Complaints


Information for Food Facilities:
Food service workers, managers and owners should consider all reports of possible foodborne illness legitimate and notify the Division of Environmental Health Services immediately.

Information for Consumers:
The Kings County Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health Services takes all complaints regarding food borne illness and food safety seriously. If you believe that you have become ill from something that you ate we would like to know. Please call 559-584-1411 and report it to our office, or if you prefer, send an e-mail with the information detailed in the Foodborne Illness Reporting information document to Keith.Winkler@co.kings.ca.us

Knowing the illness symptoms and when they occurred are critical to being able to determine the cause of the illness. In addition, knowing what and where you ate for approximately 3 days (72 hours) before you became ill will help our Department in trying to determine the cause of the illness. There is a common misconception that the last food item that you ate made you sick. While this can be true most bacteria and viruses require longer incubation periods. Be sure that you write down when your symptoms first occurred and your 3 day food history as soon as you can so you don't forget.

IN ALL CASES, IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS CASE OF FOODBORNE ILLNESS, PLEASE SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FIRST.
