Tattooing & Body Piercing Program

AB 186 which became law in October of 1997, establishes requirements for certain businesses involved in tattooing, body piercing, and permanent cosmetics. The bill required practitioners of tattooing, body piercing, and permanent cosmetics to register with the county in which they practice by December 31, 1998. It also required them to comply with the standards, provide the county health department with certain business specific information, and pay a registration fee of $25.00 as well as an annual inspection fee of $105.00 to the county health department.

The county health department is required to annually inspect the locations where tattooing, body piercing, and permanent cosmetics are practiced in order to verify that the required standards are being adhered to.
