Important Dates

January 1
Lien date, 12:01 a.m. on the first day of each year. This is the date that property taxes become a lien on the property. First day to file personal property statements with the Assessor if required or requested.

February 15
Last day for Welfare & Veteran's Organizations to timely file affidavit and claim for exemption with the Assessor. Last day for Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Cemeteries, Colleges, Exhibitors, Free Public Libraries, Free Museums, Public Schools, Welfare, Owners of Historical Aircraft, Churches, and Homeowners to file affidavit and claim for exemption with the Assessor.

April 1
Personal Property Statements are Due. Penalties Apply May 7th.

April 10
Last day to pay second installment of property tax without penalty.

May 15 - December 10
Dates to file affidavit and claim for property tax postponement with State Controller. Contact: State Controller's Office, P.O. Box 942005, Sacramento, CA 94250-2005. 1(800) 952-5661

July 2 - September 15
Period during which requests for hearings before the Assessment Appeals Board must be filed in writing with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Kings County Government Center, 1400 West Lacey Blvd., Hanford, CA 93230

August 31
Last day to pay unsecured property tax without penalty.

December 10
Last day to file late Homeowners, Veterans, and Disabled Veterans affidavit and claim for exemption with assessor. Last day to pay first installment of property tax without penalty.
