Important Dates

January 1: Lien date, 12:01 a.m. on the first day of each year. This is the date that property taxes become a lien on the property. First day to file personal property statements with the Assessor if required or requested.

February 15: Last day for Welfare & Veteran's Organizations to timely file affidavit and claim for exemption with the Assessor. Last day for Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Cemeteries, Colleges, Exhibitors, Free Public Libraries, Free Museums, Public Schools, Welfare, Owners of Historical Aircraft, Churches, and Homeowners to file affidavit and claim for exemption with the Assessor.

April 1: Personal Property Statements are due.


Important Information for Williamson Act and Farmland Security Zone Property Owners

On Tuesday, December 21, 2010, the Kings County Board of Supervisors approved the implementation of AB 1265 to modify Williamson Act and Farmland Security Zone contracts within the county. Important Information

Many property owners throughout California have received an official looking document in the mail regarding a fee based service to have their property's taxable value reduced. The document posted here is NOT from the Kings County Assessor or any other Kings County Office.  The Kings County Assessor’s Office routinely conducts property assessment reviews for Kings County property owners WITHOUT CHARGE.

Any property owner who believes that their property may be over valued may file a FREE property tax reassessment request with the Kings County Assessor’s Office. A simple, one page form is available in our office during regular office hours or can be downloaded by clicking “What if I think my assessment is too high”  on the left hand side of this page. This link provides more information regarding the Section 51 process and a form to print and mail in.

Assessor Ken Baird
Ken Baird
Kings County Assessor, Clerk/Recorder,
Registrar of Voters

On July 18, 2005 Ken Baird was appointed to fill the un-expired term of retiring Kings County Assessor, Clerk/Recorder, George Misner. He was then elected to the office in June 2006.
Ken has served in the Assessor's Office since 1978, and was the assistant department head for 15 years prior to his appointment.

Born in Oklahoma Ken graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1970 and moved to California in 1971 where he managed various restaurants in the Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley before joining the Assessor's Office in 1978.

As an active member of his community, Ken served eight years as a trustee on the Hanford Elementary School Board.

Ken has been married to his wife Susan since 1977. They live in Hanford and have two grown children.
