NOTICE OF FEE CHANGE
AB 1168 was passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor in October of 2007. This new law requries Recorders to review all recorded documents from January 1, 1980 forward and shorten the social security numbers to display only the last four digits. Additionally it requires the Recorder to create an Official File for the archival of unaltered documents and a Public File which will contain all records that are in the Official File with social security numbers shortened to display only the last four digits.
In order to offset the cost of this requirement the legislature provided that Recorders will add $1.00 to their existing fee for each recorded document. Beginning March 24, 2008 the fee for recording the first page of a document has been increased from $7.00 to $8.00. All other recording fees remain the same. This additional fee will sunset December 31, 2017.
