In Kings County, the California Department of Social Services (DPSS) provides adoption services to Kings County dependent children and prospective adoptive applicants.
The Fresno District Office is responsibile for providing adoption services to Kings County Human Services Agency and to families residing in Kings County.
CDSS is in need of families who are interested in adopting children between newborn to 17 years old who have special circumstances and special needs. The law requires CDSS to place children in permanent homes when it is apparent that they will not be returning to their birth parents.
In most cases, the social worker will not recommend termination of the parents rights until an adoptive family has been identified for the child. Therefore, we encourage all prospective adoptive applicants to become licensed foster parents for a fost-adopt placement of a child.
A fost-adopt family is an applicant who has been approved for adoption and who is a licensed foster parent. Most approved adoptive families who are licensed will receive a placement of a child six times quicker than a family who chooses not to become a foster parent.
If you are interested in adoption and would like to inquire about the process, please contact CDSS, Fresno Office. Your call will be transferred to a social worker that will obtain the necessary information to invite you to our next adoption orientation meeting.
