Child Health Disability Prevention Program (CHDP)

CHDP offers well child check-ups for children who meet the income eligible guidelines. Call the staff at CHDP

California Children's Services Program (CCS)
California Children's Services (CCS) arranges and pays for medical care, equipment, and rehabilitation needs for children with handicapping conditions who are eligible for the program.

Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
Lead clinics are available at the Health Department to screen children for elevated blood lead levels. Elevated blood lead levels have been associated with growth and development problems in children under six years of age.
MEDI-CAL eligibility required.

Children Immunization Services

Offers the full range of childhood vaccinations.
Immunization record is required
All clinics are on a walk-in basis
$5.00 per child, $10.00 per family or Medi-Cal

Tobacco Control Program

The mission of the Tobacco Control Program is to provide comprehensive tobacco education to the people of Kings County. The Tobacco Control Program works with key opinion leaders in their respective communities on three priority areas:

Reduce the effects of secondhand smoke and support
users to give up their addiction.
Reduce minor's commercial and social access to tobacco
Counter pro-tobacco influences in the community

Healthier Kings Adult Coalition is comprised of professionals and volunteers who commit time and effort to support tobacco free Kings County communities. Interested individuals may contact Oralia Vallejo at: ovallejo@co.kings.ca.us for a meeting schedule.


Child Passenger Safety Education Program

The Kings County Department of Public Health conducts child passenger safety classes for parents, grandparents and other caretakers. The two-hour sessions are offered in English and Spanish at the department's Health Centers throughout the county. Additionally classes are offered at various community agencies such as Head Start, Migrant Parents' meetings and the Cyesis Program.

Goals of the class are that every participant:

Has an understanding of the California Child Passenger Safety laws
Has installed a child passenger safety seat correctly
Understands the importance of maintaining the child properly restrained.
