Planning Department

The Planning Director is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. This department prepares general plans for orderly county growth and regulates land use. It prepares and administers zoning and subdivision ordinances, prepares environmental impact reports, takes requests for a variance, reviews site development plans, and reviews proposed public projects for compliance with the general plan. It also staffs county boards and commissions dealing with planning. The Building Inspection division enforces ordinances regulating building, and issues permits for building plans which meet regulations. It examines work underway to see that it complies with ordinances and terms of the permit.
