Animal Control has a staff of five officers, and Animal Control's functions are as follows:

  • Patrol county roads to capture and impound loose and stray animals.
  • Respond to complaints from the public regarding stray, vicious, diseased or dead animals.
  • Investigation of animal bites and quarantine the animal if necessary.
  • Explain county ordinances relating to animals to the public.
  • Issue dog licenses; issue notices and citations to ordinance violators.
  • Maintain a pound and provide private pet cremations upon request.
  • Educate the public on the benefits of vaccinating and spay/neuter programs.

After hour emergencies can be reported by calling 911 or Kings County Dispatch at 582-3211, ext. 2720.
