2017 Flu Clinic Schedule Announced by Public Health

HANFORD, CA – The Kings County Health Department will begin offering influenza vaccines on Monday October 2, 2017 at the Health Department in Building 3 at 330 Campus Drive in Hanford.  Flu vaccines will also be offered during regular immunization clinic times in Avenal and Corcoran, and at special flu vaccine clinics in Stratford and Kettleman City.  There is an $8.00 administration fee for the uninsured or underinsured.

The Kings County Health Department will host a free flu clinic on October 12th, from 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm.  The free flu clinic will be held on the south lawn of the senior and retirement center, The Remington, which is located on the corner of Fargo Avenue and Northstar Avenue in the City of Hanford.  All residents of Kings County are invited to attend and receive a free flu shot.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health and the Kings County Health Department all recommend that everyone over the age of 6 months receive a flu vaccine.  The CDC website states that the vaccine is safe and effective.

Receiving an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu.  Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.  The more people who are vaccinated, the more people will be protected from flu, including older people, very young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions who are more vulnerable to serious flu complications.

A few things that were new last season that are continuing this year:

  • Flu vaccines have been updated to better match circulating viruses.
  • The recommendations for vaccination of people with egg allergies have changed.
  • This season, only injectable flu vaccines (flu shots) will be available.
  • Nasal spray vaccine will not be available at the Health Department.
