As a precautionary measure to help protect staff and
the community from the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19),
the Assessor/Clerk-Recorder will only issue marriage
licenses if an urgent situation applies until further notice.

Marriage licenses are issued Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Please arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. to ensure the process is completed by 4:00.
The fee for a marriage license is $57.00 and is payable with cash, check, or money order.
In order to be issued a marriage license, you must be age 18 or over, and provide an acceptable form of photo identification (Driver's License, Matricula, Passport, etc.)
Both parties must be present in order to complete the application.
If you were previously married, you must know the date your previous marriage ended.
You must know the FULL BIRTH name of both of your parents as listed on THEIR birth certificate.
Marriage licenses issued in Kings County are valid for marriage ceremonies performed anywhere in the State of California, and are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.
Marriage ceremonies are performed by the Clerk/Recorder on Thursdays by appointment only. The first appointment is at 2:15 p.m., and are available every 15 minutes until the last ceremony beginning at 3:45 p.m.
We do NOT set appointments for the same day. Appointments must be made at least one day in advance.
There is a non-refundable ceremony fee of $15.00 payable by cash, check, or money order.
You must bring at least one witness for the ceremony that is 18 years of age or older. If you do not have a witness, we can provide one for you for an additional $16.75 fee.
